“Long hours on a plane are like a secret alcove where, all alone, disconnected, you can let realty drift away for a while. Say goodbye, collect your souvenirs, rewind your emotions, and then curl them up into a tight little ball so that they’ll always be available to you, living right there close to your heart.”
How wonderfully put is that?
I read this quote on Garance Dore’s blog (my favorite obsession). I love the way she captures the strange world on a long flight. I find it’s equal parts thrilling, tedious, and meditative. Sometimes I get great thinking done up there; and I’m always blown away when I think about the fact that my body literally hurtling across the world.
There’s certainly something special about about being stuck up in the air.
